I really liked how all the Sherlock characters were re-imagined to fit into this AU.

Recommendation: This is probably closer to what I was expecting out of His Last Vow, though admittedly without the sexy times. Season 3 was a real disappointment for me and I think others. I’ve been avoiding stories that take it into account too, mostly because I can’t stand stories that feature infidelity. In this one, though the relationship doesn’t move forward before John’s trust is shattered and he makes his choice.

Recommendation: This is lovely, just lovely. Sherlock is the great-nephew of a Victorian Sherlock Holmes whose Dr. John Watson kept journals of their exploits and their relationship, the reading of which challenges their modern counterparts to reexamine their own relationship. I just love the passages from the old Watson’s journals, people don’t express themselves that way anymore and it truly is a shame.

Recommendation: A little suspension of disbelief is required to get past the ‘arranged marriage’ thing, but don’t let that stop you because what follows is a wonderful ‘getting to know you’ between John and Sherlock that though in keeping does not simply follow canon. John is BAMF! and Sherlock is so smitten in his own Sherlockian way, it’s beautiful. And the end is pleasing all around, even if Mummy Holmes takes too much credit.
