Due to the recent policy changes over at Tumblr and the general break down of tag searches with outgoing links, I've begun expanding my presence over a few new platforms in the event that fandom decamps en mass from that sinking ship. I don't think that it will happen all at once on the 17th but I'm just trying to get ahead of this thing.

So I think I'd best introduce myself, I’m Isabelle Disraeli. I am in my mid-thirties living with my spouse and assorted fur-babies in the Southeastern United States. I identify as an asexual/biromantic and while I would like to do some posts about asexuality positivity, I’m primarily here to recommend fanfiction that I have enjoyed. The lion’s share will be slash, but I will be including a selection of femslash and het stories as well. Though I am well old enough to have been on LiveJournal in its heyday, sadly in those days I was but a lurker in the halls of fandom and it was only later that I felt inspired to give back. That being said the Dreamwidth interface is proving to be a bit of a learning curve for me and I kind of wish I had a fandom mom to show me the ropes.

I do hope to start making regular posts here once I get everything figured out. :D

So fandoms, you better buckle in 'cause I plan to list them all.  These are the fandoms that I have rec'd for and have plans to rec for, but I will probably add to this list.

Anyway, I am here to make some fandom friends and share my love of fanfic with others, so if you feel like chatting I'm game. :) [If I don't write back right away, it probably means I'm at work, asleep, or have the migraine and can't look at a screen :P.] I don't think I'll be doing too much personal posting here, though I might change mine mind later but I anticipate that this will be a predominately fandom space for me. Feel free to link to any public posts, but please do drop me a line letting me know that you are going to. :D

[sticky entry] Sticky: On Commenting

On Commenting from [personal profile] trascendenza

I have seen this around on other journals and I couldn't help but be charmed. So I am officially adopting this as my policy :D.

I welcome all of the following types of comments on any of my entries:

+ Single or two word comments.
+ "+1" or Facebook style "like".
+ Otherwise brief comments, e.g. single sentences.
+ A comment that is a punctuation mark(s) to let me know you read, e.g. a period, an asterisk.
+ A comment that is a punctuation mark(s) to express your response, e.g. an exclamation mark or question mark.
+ A comment that is an emoticon(s) to express your response.
+ Long, wordy comments. Rambling is totally okay.
+ Comments and links on related topics.
+ Comments on single links, entities, paragraphs, topics, or words in the entry.
+ Sequential commentary. It's totally okay to comment about one thing as you read it, then another thing in a separate comment, then a third thing.
+ Incoherent comments. I would rather have you here and showing interest, even if it's just a *flail*, than for you to stay silent because you are afraid or unable to get the perfect comment out.
+ Talking amongst yourselves in the comments is fine. I like creating a place where people get to interact!

I also welcome:

+ Comments on old entries.
+ Comments from people who are not subscribed to me.
+ Comments from people who I’ve never met.
+ Comments from people who haven’t talked to me in awhile.
+ Comments from people who’ve never talked to me.
+ I like knowing the provenance of new commenters. If you're new, I'd love to know where you came from and what brought you here. (But if you're feeling shy that's okay too, you can try again another time, no pressure) :)

Title: Just Like a Tattoo
Author: winnix
Canon: Suicide Squad
Pairing: Rick Flag/Floyd Lawton
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 4,237
Summary: Harley gets a tattoo gun.

Recommendation: Well this is cute, squad bonding. I love it. Though I'm not really sure that I'd ever feel comfortable with a permanently misspelled word on my body. Just, uh, freaks me out thinking about it.

Title: Something Bittersweet
Author: Cloudnine101
Canon: Suicide Squad
Pairing: Rick Flag/Floyd Lawton
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 2,056
Summary: Rick can't stop coming back.

Recommendation: I saw the movie and while I liked the characters and thought their chemistry was fun, the plot was . . . not great. Jared Leto's Joker pisses me off on a variety of levels, from the romanticizing abusive relationships to just being stupid and unscary. Deadshot was great though and I love the thought of Harley and him being bros, but I liked the potential between him and Flag. I loved the little scene at the end with Floyd visiting with his daughter being overseen by Rick and I love that this author fleshed that out a bit.

Title: Acoustics
Author: illyrias
Canon: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./MCU
Pairing: Bobbi Morse/Jemma Simmons
Rating: General [G]
Word Count: 1,352
Summary: Jemma's held herself together fine in the middle of life and death situations, so there is absolutely no reason her brain should switch off right now, or so the rational side of it tells her. Or the 5 times Jemma Simmons was made speechless because of one Agent Morse. (Bobbi, right.)

Recommendation: I do so love a tol/smol and AoS provides both Fitzmack and now for the ladies Simmorse. I agree with Jemma's assessment, Bobbi is gorgeous. Jemma is also precious.

Title: The Coalesce series
Author: EtLaBete
Canon: Overwatch
Pairing: Gabriel Reyes/Jack Morrison
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 15,478
Summary: The vigilante known as Soldier: 76 sends messages to a number he thinks belongs to a dead man, and it does, technically, except Reaper reads them, every last one, and he can only stay a ghost for so long.

Recommendation: These two are killing me with the feels, their tension is so fraught with history, betrayal and love. I love that they get an after. I love that Jesse gets to throw in his two cents. And I love the imagery of Dia de los Muertos and what it can mean for these old soldiers.

Recommendation #1,815

Title: Gallipoli
Author: Neyasochi
Canon: Overwatch
Pairing: Gabriel Reyes/Jack Morrison
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 12,815
Summary: Reaper and Soldier: 76 share all the same old haunts. Crossing paths was an inevitability.

Recommendation: Oh man, these old soldiers bring all the feels and the angst, but the reunion is a sweet thing. All of this is so painful but so good, and dare I say a little hopeful at the end.

Title: Adaptation
Author: CommonNonsense
Canon: Overwatch
Pairing: Jesse McCree/Hanzo Shimada
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 13,315
Summary: McCree always did like a challenge, and Hanzo Shimada is a bundle of challenges wrapped up in a handsome package and tied with a gold ribbon.

Recommendation: Man, I just don't get tired of a slow building relationship between these two. It's a good thing that McCree is nowhere near as emotionally constipated as Hanzo.

Title: Like the River
Author: Goodluckdetective
Canon: Overwatch
Pairing: Jesse McCree/Hanzo Shimada
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 5,829
Summary: Dragon Spirits don’t trust just anyone. McCree never expected for them to ever trust him. Or how McCree gained some trust, won a shootout, almost caught the flu, and proceeded to be the most handsome damsel in distress Overwatch has ever seen.

Recommendation: This was so wonderful! I love the slow build of it, with McCree measuring every new point in their friendship/relationship by when he'd first sees the dragons.

So I haven't really meant to be so absent from DW, but I'll be honest I usually drop out of online participation in the winter and spring (picking back up in the summer and fall) but this last winter was very different because of the Tumblr implosion. (Which I've almost stopped going there at all now, and anytime I do go it makes me sad and angry so I stop again.) I feel like that throw off my usual "break time" but I've not been totally inactive. I'm over on DeviantArt (and boy do I have some issues with their policies just like with Tumblr, but I digress) having fun with doll & scene makers which has it's own little niche that is quite sweet. I am also trying to pad out the number of works featuring Maria Rambeau and her wife Carol, because there is a very sad lack. I've not done much reading in the last few weeks, but all the reading I have done has been for these wonderful Pilot Wives. :D

It was my birthday yesterday, and I had a lovely time with my family (strawberry cake, which I'll confess to having a piece of for breakfast this morning ;D). And in the evening, Game of Thrones has returned! :D Everyone I love will probably die horribly but I'm still excited anyway (which is pretty much the GoT fan experience ;)). I also watched The Meg is weekend, and what even is that movie and why did I sit through the whole thing? o_O Ugh. No more shark movies.

Whelp, I think that's pretty much all that's been going on for me. Oh, and I thought I'd share one of the Danbeau pics I've done and, yes, that is them as Tinkerbell-style pixies but I thought it turned out rather sweet. Anyway, enough about me, how are you doing?

Title: The Horseshoe Nail series
Author: Dyce
Canon: Firefly | Serenity
Pairing: River Tam/Jayne Cobb
Rating: Teen - Mature [PG - R]
Word Count: 237,773
Summary: Jayne is left all alone with a bad leg and a crazy girl for two days. It doesn't go as badly as it could.

Recommendation: So this is like a birthday present to myself. I've loved this epic for ages and frankly I think it's even better than the canon 'cause spoiler alert, everybody lives. I love that Jayne and River start out as real friends and it only grows from there. I've always loved a good slow build, and this most assuredly fits the bill. What is also wonderful is how this growing relationship affects the rest of the crew who are in no way neglected. All around a perfect gift.

Title: Fortuna
Author: samedifference61
Canon: American Gods
Pairing: Shadow Moon/Mad Sweeney
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 7,809
Summary: Before House on the Rock, Shadow and Sweeney are sent to roundup a mysterious goddess in Las Vegas.

Recommendation: I love that this expands the world to include new gods and good old Lady Luck fits right in with canon. Half way through I was reminded of the opposing forces of being lucky at cards or lucky in love, and I thought well if Sweeney's lost his luck everywhere else maybe he'll get lucky in love.

Title: The Sheer Unholy Fucking Delight of It
Author: deathtosanepeople
Canon: American Gods
Pairing: Shadow Moon/Mad Sweeney
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 7,396
Summary: Wednesday, Shadow, and our resident unlucky leprechaun are finally traveling to Wisconsin. After a rough night of drinking, tormented by thoughts of his dead wife and the ones who put her in her grave, Shadow has to make an unscheduled pit stop to empty his guts on the side of the road. Sweeney follows and tries to give him some advice, and as usual, it falls through. This time however, Sweeney doesn’t mind, for Shadow wants something else from him— something Sweeney would much rather give.

Recommendation: I love that this seems to illustrate that Shadow is no mere mortal man, and that he has some regard for Sweeney.

Title: If You Can't Eat It, Drink It, Smoke It, or Snort It
Author: Largishcat
Canon: American Gods
Pairing: Shadow Moon/Mad Sweeney
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 4,266
Summary: (Then fuck it.) Mad Sweeney shows up to have a little chat with Shadow about throwing away gifts so carelessly.

Recommendation: Now Shadow's still all hung up on Laura (understandably) and usually I'd be leery because I've got issues with fidelity, but she's dead and broke faith first and the wild, desperate chemistry between Shadow and Sweeney is a hot thing like burning. The sequel, The Only Woman I Ever Loved Was Another Man's Wife, is good to if a little less violent between Shadow and Sweeney. I would put forward that Laura makes a better bro than she did a wife, as evidenced by the phone conversations.

Title: Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow
Author: GlamAssKiddo
Canon: American Gods
Pairing: Shadow Moon/Mad Sweeney
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 2,565
Summary: Sweeney couldn't get his coin back. Shadow couldn't understand what was the problem with that.

Recommendation: I read the book years ago now and while I liked it I remember liking Anansi Boys better, but I was jazzed to discover it was being made into a show. I was not prepared to ship anyone because though I liked Shadow, I most certainly didn't like Laura. Damned leprechaun had to be so charismatic, with so much delicious tension between him and Shadow. Well here I go.

Title: (When Pushing Comes to Shove) There Ain't No Cure for Love
Author: janie_tangerine
Canon: Bastille Day | The Take
Pairing: Sean Briar/Michael Mason
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 2,454
Summary: Where Briar realizes he has Feelings with the capital F for Michael. That wasn't in the plans, damn it.

Recommendation: It's so great when an emotionally constipated individual gets turned around by "Feelings". Thankfully Mason is a pretty sharp cookie.

Title: Aiming Higher
Author: RussianWitch
Canon: Bastille Day (The Take)
Pairing: Sean Briar/Michael Mason
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 1,375
Summary: Generally Mike is better at not getting caught looking.

Recommendation: The phrase "cooking passive-aggressively" is used, and if that is not enough sexytimes are had. But seriously, it should be enough.

Title: Best Laid Plans (Often Go Awry)
Author: janie_tangerine
Canon: Bastille Day | The Take
Pairing: Sean Briar/Michael Mason
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 2,781
Summary: In which Briar doesn't even understand he brought Micheal on a date until it hits him in the face.

Recommendation: I just love it when a total badass suddenly starts displaying a hitherto unseen softer side to their partner even if it's totally unconscious.

Title: The Way It’s Gonna Be
Author: achilleees
Canon: Bastille Day | The Take
Pairing: Sean Briar/Michael Mason
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 4,071
Summary: At the door to his apartment, Briar looked down and noticed that the grain of the carpet had been ruffled the wrong way, and the doorknob was locked but it wasn’t turned slightly the way he always left it. He eased his gun from its holster, slowly and silently turning the doorknob and then creeping in on the balls of his feet. Then he sighed and slid his gun back in place. He walked to the bathroom door and banged on it with his fist. “Something wrong with the shower in your apartment that you need to use mine, thief?”

Recommendation: I lay this at the feet of the wonderful art of Kaciart, they have inspired many a foray into fandoms that I otherwise would have missed. But dude, it's Stacker Pentecost and Robb Stark. o.O Wow.

Title: The Night Gone Black
Author: lunabee34
Canon: Thor/MCU
Pairing: Jane Foster/Darcy Lewis
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 2,812
Summary: Darcy is slapping Jane’s hand away from the basket of king crab legs when almost everyone else in the restaurant disintegrates. Ashes swirl through the air and settle in a thick scum on the top of Darcy’s ramekin of melted better.

Recommendation: A short while back, a kingdom was offered for a particular icon which I was more than happy to make (stretching my icon-making muscles as it were). No kingdom was necessary, but the lovely Lunabee offered to write me a story and as I was already jazzed about her story "Only Happy When It Rains" I asked for more JaneDarcy potentially sent after the Snap. And boy hoodie did Lunabee deliver. *bangs fist on desk* This is so great, this isn't even bias talking. The parts with little Cassie got me a little choke up, and ugh, I NEED this fix with Scott, Carol, and Jane. I NEED IT. (Deep breaths, three more weeks.)

Title: Caution to the Wind
Author: irisbleufic
Canon: Hot Fuzz
Pairing: Nicholas Angel/Danny Butterman
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 10,880
Summary: Fantasies are only dangerous when you start wishing they'll come true.

Recommendation: Danny is so cute and I'd read him as demisexual over anything else. I love his relationship with Doris, she's such a good friend. Nicholas' mother-henning was super cute.

Title: DIY for Beginners
Author: lamardeuse
Canon: Hot Fuzz
Pairing: Nicholas Angel/Danny Butterman
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 4,597
Summary: Danny is worried that the temptations of the big city will lure Nicholas back to London, but what can Sandford offer that will tempt him to stay?

Recommendation: Danny is such a goof, but he's a persistent and thorough goof and this works for him especially with Nicholas.
