Title: Give the Cardassian a Cat
Author: almaasi
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 6,613
Summary: With the O’Briens temporarily away from DS9, Chester the cat moves in with Julian. Having established that Julian’s new feline roommate is not an over-pampered, crush-stealing, lap-sitting lover that Garak needs to fight off, Garak makes a furry friend for the first time in his life. And now he can’t bear to leave Julian’s quarters. By the time Miles and Keiko get back... well, Julian, Garak, and Chester seem a little too comfortable where they are.

Recommendation: I did not know that I needed a story about Garak meeting and adopting a cat with Julian, but damn this scratched that unexpected itch. I also LOVE the thought of these two hosting "family nights" with Keiko, Miles, and the kids.

Title: Bloom
Author: Tulikettu
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 5,183
Summary: Julian has some questions about some some literature he's come across. A practical lesson is the way to go.

Recommendation: Dear sweet mother of mercy, this is a hot and sweet bit of loveliness. I'm glad I'm not the only one down for bottom Garak, of which there needs to be more.

Title: The Apostasy of Elim Garak
Author: AuroraNova
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 8,537
Summary: Dr. Bashir offers much-needed medical aid to Cardassia. It does not go as planned. With Bashir's life at stake, Garak is forced to confront a deeply flawed state, his own sentiment, and previously inconceivable limits on sacrifice.

Recommendation: Oh man, how heartbreaking for Garak after waiting so long to go home. I love that everyone that knows Garak even a little is "oh yeah, he did it for Julian".

Title: Presumption of Facts
Author: cyranothe2nd
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 10,513
Summary: After his secret is out, Julian thinks he should feel guiltier. After all, he has been lying to everyone he knows for more than two decades. But, to his great surprise, no one seems to care. His friends—with one notable exception—have been understanding and accommodating. It is that exception who has just now cancelled another lunch date.

Recommendation: Oh, I love that this one leans into the notion that a lot of Julian's breezy manners are simply a construct designed to through people (including Garak) off their potential suspicions of him. I love that Jules is a much more assertive and grasping individual that really loves all the various aspects of the equally complex Garak.

Title: All Is Fair in Love and War
Author: Syaunei
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 26,730
Summary: Garak notices a disturbing trend in his lunch companion's choice of fashion. Is Julian being his usual clueless self, or is he doing it on purpose? (AKA; Syaunei takes skant fic for a spin.)

Recommendation: Oh man, Julian wardrobe from the show was tragic and I love that that fact just drives his friend, the tailor, spare. Extra points for the use of the canonical skant. Now I feel deeply disappointed that we didn't see that used on DS9.

Title: The Latest Work
Author: 28ghosts
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 1,220
Summary: Garak is put in the unfortunate position of having to correct a misconception Bashir seems to have about Cardassian culture.

Recommendation: More fool Garak for thinking Julian, living on Cardassia, didn't know what he was doing. But it's funny anyway. ;D

Title: A Friend in the Dark
Author: AuroraNova
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 26,861
Summary: Julian Bashir is headed to a court-martial for lying about his genetic status. He's willing to accept the consequences of his actions, but Dax thinks something is wrong. When she and Sisko find out just how bad the situation is, there's only one person who can help. Garak thinks they're all hopelessly naive. Fortunately, he knows what he's doing.

Recommendation: Honestly, this episode made zero sense in the context of the rest of Star Trek canon so I really appreciate this take on it. I mean it's sad to have these two cut off from their other friends on DS9 but there is more internal logic to the narrative. Garak getting his spy on, and Julian learning the ropes are both fun and I definitely love that this gives them a real chance at a deeper relationship.

Title: Pouring Just a Hint
Author: susiecarter
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 8,925
Summary: Julian doesn't think about it much these days. Why should he, when it's been so long? But when he does, if he does, well—he considers it part and parcel of Garak, that's all. Disconcerting at first, a little invasive. Awfully close to a line but not quite crossing it, and leaving Julian with absolutely no idea what he's meant to do in response. Garak in microcosm, summarized in a single unexpected gesture. (Or: Julian has always thought Garak just had a weird little habit. Until another Cardassian does the same thing to him, and seems to imbue the gesture with a meaning Julian really had not anticipated.)

Recommendation: This sounds like such a wonderfully Cardassian gesture and while I love Garak doing his damnedest to talk his way around it I equally love Julian not letting him off the hook. Get it Bashir.

Title: Opacity of Paradise
Author: thehoyden
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 10,154
Summary: “True enough’, my dear doctor, is my favorite kind of lie.”

Recommendation: I can’t say no to the trope of “let's get married for [convenient reason] so that we can help each other platonically but we’d like to bone because we’re actually in love”. That just never gets old for me, especially when it’s this well done.

Title: Cardassian Courtship
Author: LadyDrace
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 10,385
Summary: Bashir suddenly connects some dots.

Recommendation: I feel like Cardassians would appreciate the old movie trope of having a towering argument before the passionate first kiss. Their combative foreplay is both verbal and non-verbal, and while Julian is just winging it he’s doing a stellar job.

Title: A Dark Stone for a Heart
Author: pen_and_umbra
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 8,144
Summary: Sometimes, when faced with the reality of our mortality, we do things that are braver and more desperate than we really are. A death can be the beginning of a new life, as Julian Bashir learns.

Recommendation: Oh man, I remember this episode of TNG, what a powerful performance from Sir Patrick Stewart. I’m so glad that nasty Madred is getting his comeuppance, but I did read that in one of the ST novels that the daughter Madred had no shame in her seeing the tortured Picard actually ends up working with the Federation because of her disgust in her father’s actions. But this is not the principle story, oh no, it’s all about Julian and Garak reuniting after a long absence. Lovely.

Title: Flexibility
Author: LadyDrace
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 955
Summary: Appearances can be deceiving, and with Garak… they are.

Recommendation: I love it when a little effort is made to delineate differences between ‘alien’ species and humans, and if this comes in the form of smut, well that’s even better.

Title: Literacy
Author: thehoyden
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 5,581
Summary: “You want me to read to you?” Julian repeated, somewhat taken aback.

Recommendation: Oh woow, sneaky Cardassian (though that might count as a redundant statement). It’s like asking someone who has only beginners English to read Brokeback Mountain (or even something even more dependent on metaphor), I’m fairly sure quite a lot would be lost in translation. And may I say, Dukat is such a creeper.

Title: Learning the Language
Author: Allemande
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 13,425
Summary: Julian Bashir joins the post-war effort on Cardassia Prime because it seems like the most obvious thing to do: No planet is worse off after the war, he’s a doctor, and they don’t have enough of those. He’s learning the language, because that’s what you do when you’re living somewhere for an indefinite amount of time. But he soon realizes that language isn’t just about vocabulary and grammar, and learns a few things about his own past along the way.

Recommendation: This, I think, is my favorite story with this pairing. I love the thought of Julian learning the Kardasi language and coming to a fuller understanding of Cardassians as a whole and Garak specifically. I love all of the little worldbuilding details and I absolutely adore the charming OCs. Ah, to live in a world of lady doctors.

Title: Practice, Practice, Practice
Author: LadyDrace
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 1,791
Summary: To maintain a level of excellence in any skill, one must practice constantly.

Recommendation: Garak seems more than a little abashed that Julian has taken the reins, as it were. Not that he isn’t thoroughly enjoying himself though. But if Julian still thinks that it’s Garak with the upper hand, so much the better.

Title: This Time
Author: LadyDrace
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]

Summary: This time is different…

Recommendation: This is a delicious bit of naughtiness, and no mistake.

Title: Going Native
Author: Regann
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 13,000+
Summary: An AU take on Season 5’s Doctor Bashir, I Presume. With no recourse but to resign from the service, Bashir takes a chance that he couldn’t have contemplated as a Starfleet officer. Meanwhile, the crew looks for a creative solution that will keep their doctor on the station.

Recommendation: I have to admit that this is a lot less hand-wavey than the resolution that was used on the show, a lot more plausible without Starfleet disregarding their own rules. But oh man Julian, that’s kind of a dick move. Thankfully Garak is distracted by being impressed with your lying skills.

Title: Exile
Author: thehoyden
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 8,949
Summary: Exile was certainly dark, but in Julian Bashir’s case, it was warm and humid instead of numbingly cold.

Recommendation: This is such a fascinating turn around, with Julian being the exile and not Garak. I love how Julian seems too charm Cardassians without trying to hard. Mostly because he’s clever and useful, and Julian’s all “don’t you need anything else” and practical Cardassians are like “nope”.

Title: Underwear
Author: Ololon
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 5,681
Summary: Set circa season 2, but no specific timeline. Garak asks Julian to model underwear for him. (Why are you looking at me like that?!). “My dear doctor, the camera always lies…”

Recommendation: Garak’s just a little too subtle to go for it during the obvious setup, but Julian seems to be catching on to how he does things and upping the ante.

Title: Seduction in Mind
Author: DictionaryWrites
Canon: Star Trek DS9
Pairing: Julian Bashir/Elim Garak
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 3,598
Summary: I saw a post on Tumblr about Bashir seducing Garak as opposed to the other way around, and I must say: it spoke to me. Julian knows precisely what he wants. Garak isn’t nearly so certain.

Recommendation: I’m rather tickled by the notion of Julian being the one to get Garak all flustered and wrong footed.
