Non-Rec: Shipposting, the Catradora Edition

The very latest OTP to latch onto my heart has been Catradora from Netflix’s She-Ra: Princess of Power. Oh, I’ve not been this gone over a cartoon since Avatar the Last Airbender truthfully and I’m so excited that Season Two drops in April. \o/

 

I have enjoyed the dynamic that they embody (friends to enemies to lovers) as one that I’ve loved and seen played out by a few slash ships over the years. I love the thought of a femslash pairing getting to do the same thing. They are so delightfully fraught. I don’t even need them to be endgame, but if Catra doesn’t get a redemption arc I’m going on record now that I am going to be UPSET™. That being said I’m enjoying the heck out of the fanfiction that has already been produced and I’m looking forward to more.

I think you've just convinced me to watch this show! I've been hesitant about it, but the dynamic you're describing with those two characters sounds RIGHT up my alley--I may have to give it a shot, just to see what it's like.

I hope you do! I realize it might not be to everyone's taste, but on the other hand, I feel like I can't oversell this show. It's well animated and I feel it's been thoughtfully executed with an eye for solid characterizations and unfolding lore that gives you enough to go on but still leaves you with questions for later. It's got comedy and a few running gags alongside some weightier issues, but I feel like it's well balanced. And there are some delightful side characters too.

And then on top of that, these two angry, baby lesbians have given me all the feels I can handle. Uh, it's so good. :D

I've enjoyed Noelle Stevenson's work on other things (Nimona and her time on Lumberjanes), so I'm guessing I would enjoy this show too--I avoided it initially just because of a couple bad experiences with the fandom, but everything I've heard about the show itself seems to be awesome and I really, really like what I've seen of the art style. With that review, I may just have to go watch it!

(Once I finish my rewatch of a different show for writing purposes, at least...)

And yeah catradora is amazing! The show is one of the few that I've re-watched almost immediately after finishing. I am struggling to find fics that feel right though, so will be watching avidly for recs :)

Recs are definitely in the works, but I get what you mean about not necessarily being able to find ones that get the characterization quite right. But I've read one or two that I think will be winners. :)

ABSOLUTELY! I would love to see Catra get a redemption arc that is all about her, about her growth, and about her healing from the frankly AWFUL childhood that she had. And in the process, I hope that she reconciles with Adora, but I definitely don't want Adora to be the reason. Oh, and I would quite like the others to come too, Scorpia and Entrapta, but also the old squad too. :) Pretty much everybody but Hordak and Shadow Weaver really. *nods decisively*
