Day 5 - Fandom Snowflake Challenge

 

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

Hmmm, let's see. Okay, I'll start with stargateficrec (and not just because I'm one of the reccers for this month ;)), because there can never be too many SGA (or SG-1/SGU) fanfic recommendations. :D

And then how about marvelrarepairs, it's an older comm that is being revived with some new energy and I never can resist the siren's call of a rare pairing. ;)

Finally, something a little different. Annlyel Online is one of the nice blogs I've encountered on WordPress, it's full of movie reviews, informal movie rankings, and fun character polls. And Annlyel is very nice herself. :)

And just because I would really like to see these two comm grow I'll throw in bagginshield and valvert.  So if anyone is interested please join us. :D

It pains me to think of SamSteve as a rarepair given how devoted they are to one another in the comics and how much goodness there is between them in CATWS and CACW, but when Sam is only given 0.18 minutes of screen time and 2 lines in the latest movie — plus he's black when the other people with whom Steve is closest are all white (Tony, Bucky, Sharon, Nat, literally all of the Avengers) — it shouldn't surprise me. Still stings, though.

I feel this too. I'm pretty sure it was decided that Tony x Rhodey counted as a rare pairing too, and that just breaks my heart. And I know why, but that just gets me worked up. :P I must confess that I ship Stucky, it is an OTP for me and I don't ship either of them with anyone else.

That being said I still wish that SamSteve was more popular because that would mean that there was more Sam Wilson content out there full stop. I feel like I carry Sam around and try to ship him with almost anyone, I've read some nice Sam x Scott stuff and some REALLY great Sam x T'Challa.

I'm no writer, so I feel like there isn't much I can do to help boost the numbers for unappreciated characters (specifically PoC characters), but I have begun to leave prompts on the MCU Kink Meme *shrug* so maybe. :)

I think it's great that you're boosting Sam even if you don't ship SamSteve! It's really important that white fans support characters of colour and call each other out on our nonsense. Fandom is so, so racist, but it's convenient for a lot of white fans to turn a blind eye to it. Case in point, if Rhodey was white, Tony/Rhodey would have been the main ship in the MCU for 13 years now, and everybody knows it.

And yes... IW was extremely, unnecessarily cruel to its characters of colour (Gamora, T'Challa, Okoye, Shuri, Sam, Rhodey, ALL OF FREAKIN WAKANDA....). I haven't been able to watch the trailer for part 2 (because Reasons — I'll probably make/import a post from Tumblr about the way that IW triggered the fuck out of me in terms of my PTSD), but from what I've heard from fans of colour on Twitter/Tumblr, the prognosis for characters of colour doesn't look much better.

...At least we have Black Panther 2 to look forward to?

I heartily agree! I feel that there is a responsibility for white fans to make an effort to include PoC characters in their content, their reading selections, and in their shipping. I'm not saying that that negates personal preferences, I'm not a fan of SamSteve but boy howdy do I ship the pants off of Iron Husbands (don't even get me started on the Shakespearian epicness that is T'Cherik). ;D But you can't say that your preference is to not have PoC there at all or only in supporting roles, that's racist *flips table*.

*deep breathes* Sorry, I get salty about this. Yes. IW was so cruel, why did it have to be in Wakanda? (If Shuri has more than a bruise or two from her fall, I'mma riot!) Ugh, I'm so sorry you were triggered. D: Do take care of yourself.

There is BP2, that is something to look forward to. . .

Thanks, I am definitely looking forward to BP2!

And, on the topic of "personal preferences" when it comes to characters of colour, I'll be re-posting something from Tumblr that I wrote about the presence of Bucky Barnes in Black Panther, so stay tuned for that
