Summary: Rhodey’s dad is dying, and what he’s always wanted is for Rhodey to be happily married. Tony and Rhodey were best friends, and haven’t spoken in years. But after a chance meeting at the airport, and a desperate, insane idea on Rhodey’s part, they end up pretending to be engaged. But how much of it is really pretend?
Recommendation: I feel the need to spell out the time frame of this one because I really couldn’t get a handle on it until like halfway through. Tony is 22 with Rhodey just a little older and in the military; Howard and Maria are still alive while the events of Iron Man are brought way forward. There that being said, this was so painful. Tony is just a sad ball of need so very in love while Rhodey is the most painfully oblivious guy in the history of ever, but his family is truly marvelous. I love them all especially his wonderful mother, but really the whole Rhodes clan is probably the best thing that ever happened to Tony.
