Title: The Captive and the Animal
Author: yorsminroud
Canon: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Pairing: Percival Graves/Credence Barebone
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 16,520
Summary: In which a rescued, ruined Percival Graves is confined to his office; Newt Scamander shows up with Credence Barebone in his trunk; and Percival thinks that maybe - just maybe - he might know how to fix him.
Recommendation: I really enjoyed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I liked the characters, the new details of magical America and all of the beautiful costumes and sets. That being said, the plot was unfortunately full of holes, mayhap they will tie things back in with that next film they’re planning. One of the biggest holes for me (and I think for others), was what happened to the real Percival Graves? He had to be alive until at least near the end for Grindelwald to maintain a polyjuice potion but that’s never addressed. This story takes, what I think, will be a fairly accurate idea of what happened to him rather like Moody. Tina makes a trunk joke, oh my God. I love Tina and Percival’s relationship in this one, it’s almost sibling-esque despite the age difference. Speaking of age differences, the one between Percival and Credence is more than I usually go for but somehow I feel it works when balanced just right.
