Non-Rec: She's ALIVE!

Whelp, I'm definitely alive and feeling good about my summer off! :D I just got back from a very good and relaxing vacation only to have to go into hurricane preparedness mode. Eek! (The joys of living in the southeastern US ;P).

I do hope everyone has had a good summer (at the very least not a bad one). I've been reading (some), but not keeping track so I'm really not ready to start back rec'ing daily but I've been thinking that I might ease my way back in and just rec if I feel like it and if the volume increases than maybe I might move to a more regular schedule like I had had before. :D

I've been having myself a grand old time on DeviantArt playing with doll and scene makers, and I'm thinking that I might post a few that I'm particularly proud of (if no one objects ;)).

My fandom time this summer has been awfully nostalgic, and very much animated. The movie Megamind is on Netflix and dude, I've watched it like three times this last month. I LOVE that movie! (That's the one that needed a sequel so bad! I need to know about Megamind's time as a hero and he and Roxanne needed to go on a real date. I don't want this, I need this.) I also watched Zootopia again. *sigh* I think that one might be my favorite movie to come out in the last ten years. (And yes that includes the individual Marvel movies, but not the MCU as a whole.) If they do go ahead a make a sequel for that, they better not mess it up or I will riot.

Okay, so if you've made it this far I'm going to ask you a question. What are your top three favorite computer animated movies? (You don't need to put them in any order.) Mine are Zootopia, Megamind, and Ratatouille. (With an honorable mention for Kung Fu Panda ;))

I think my favorite 3 animated movies might be WALL-E, Despicable Me, and Big Hero 6. I hadn't heard of Megamind at all though, so I looked it up. Since it's on Netflix I might check that out.

Oooh, those three are good ones too! Ack, I do hope you get a chance to check Megamind out. In my opinion, it probably was released a little early, if it had come out a few years later I think it would have made more waves. But I also think it holds up well storywise certainly but also animation-wise. :D

I think rec if you feel like it sounds like a great idea. I always try to take a step back if fandom stuff starts to feel like work. It's meant to be my fun hobby!

I'm not savvy enough to know when animation is computer generated or not but I love animation. I'd pick The Road to El Dorado, Mulan, and Spirited Away for top 3. Honorable mentions to How to Train Your Dragon and Into the Spiderverse.

Absolutely! I was really feeling a sense of deadline pressure and it really wasn't feeling like a hobby, but I'm hoping easing my way back in will help with that feeling. :D

Though I think computer animation was used for some scenes in those three movies, they are more traditional animation but be that as it may I love all three of those so much especially Spirited Away (so good!). HTTYD and Into the Spiderverse though totally count as computer animation, and dang but I really need to get around to seeing Into the Spiderverse. I've heard nothing but good things. :D

O_O Oh! If you have the time (and like animated movies) Zootopia is really excellent. It ticks off all the boxes; wonderful animation, superb voice acting, terrific story, and really hard-hitting underlying message. All the good things. :D

I think your list is EXCELLENT. My top three are Zootopia, Moana, and How to Train Your Dragon, with honorable mention to Big Hero 6 (which is entirely too quotable) and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie.

Oh man, I really need to sit myself down and watch Moana. I really don't know why it's taking me so long to get around to it. BH6 was so good, the only reason it didn't make my list is I'm still so sad about it (although kudos to them for making me feel so invested so quickly).

I didn't even think of the Clone Wars movie! But I think that's because we watched that at the same time that we were binging the tv show so I think it's all kind of amalgamated in my mind but that was a good one too. :D

Moana is awesome! It's my go-to "it's the dead of winter and I need a pick-me-up" movie--it's so pretty, the music is catchier than it has any right to be, and the ending always makes me tear up a little bit. (I may have seen it multiple times in theaters when it came out...that was a good ending to an otherwise rough semester.)

The Clone Wars movie and show were so good. The "holy shit" factor went off the charts sometimes (in both good and bad ways), but they were SO MUCH fun to watch. I'll have to break out my DVDs again sometime.

I agree entirely about The Clone Wars. It was SO good (sometimes it wasn't but mostly it was good). First, the spouse and I binged it, then we took it on the road and made my dad watch it followed by my sister and her spouse. We've not gotten around to watching any of the other shows though, not Rebels (which I still think I might want to try) nor Resistance (which I've not heard was good).

The great thing about TCW is that no matter whether the individual episode was good or not, it was always guaranteed to be a hell of a ride. (Not to mention surprisingly adult at times, and there's some episodes that still make me bawl.)

I haven't seen either of those! Rebels is on my list, but not Resistance (though I might have to see it eventually).

I know what you mean! The ones that really got to me were the ones that focused on the clones and their struggles, but I was also really broken up about the trouble that befell Ahsoka towards the end. (Finding out that she shows up in Rebels, *sigh* warmed my heart.)

Oh, and Asajj Ventress is like my second favorite SW villain in the whole franchise (movies, books, shows, etc.). She was so badass! :D

The "Rookies" story arc is probably one of my all-time favorites, and also one of my all-time tearjerkers. MY HEART. (I totally named an OC after one of them. It had to be done.)

Asajj is so cool. I'd watch an entire series just focusing on her.

It's all good. My mum's like that, which is hard for her because the rest of the fam LOVES animated movies. But I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone. :)

Oh, Ferdinand! I remember that being advertised, but then I didn't hear anything about it after so I'd forgotten about it. It was good?

I really liked Ferdinand, but I can't really remember too much about it--only saw it the once and then, you're right, it just sort of disappeared--but the soundtrack I listen to pretty regularly.

Hmmm, computer animated movies. I like Moana and Brave for sure, I cried at both of those. I think in general I prefer traditional animation? I've watched a bunch, but none of them are like "yes, this one in particular was especially memorable for me". I did have fun looking at the list of computer-animated films, though - there's so many lesser-known ones from non-US countries!

Oh, Brave! That was so good. It was really great to see an animated movie were a mother/daughter relationship was central to the plot (instead of having had the mom be dead).

I feel you about traditional animation, I've not got a real preference but there is nothing quite like well executed cell animation *dreamy sigh*. Thanks for linking the list, that was really cool to go through. I even found a few that I could not quite recall the names of but that I'd remembered enjoying. :D
