Hey, I relate to this a lot. I love the idea of sex pollen tropes, but it has to be with characters who would've had an underlying desire to do it anyway. I also think that it seems most honest when one deals with the fact that it is, like, mutually dubious consent even if it is enthusiastically given at the time and that it might be a rocky way to find out you were mutually into each other.

Oh yes, I agree, and I do appreciate stories that take the time to unpack the thorny consent issues inherent in a sex pollen scenario. I've read a few that dealt rather explicitly with that, but I would say most tend to opt out just after the sex. So I like to imagine that the needed conversations happen just after that. :D

Coffee shop AU?

Sure, I like coffee shop AUs but for me, the best ones are the ones that somehow work it into the canon universe. I read a Cherik one that had them still as mutants, but instead of a school Charles owned a coffee shop and it was like a mutant community spot. Those make me happy. :)

Angsty pining ~Rather not, I'm not big on too much angst at least not for longer stories. Angsty drabbles are okay.

Temporary gender swap ~I dunno, it just seems to run up against too many heavy issues and too often its uses gender stereotypes to play for laughs. I'd have to trust the author before I gave this another go.

Soulmate AU ~I Guess, it's usually not my thing but I have read a few that I thought were very good. I'll usually give it a try if it's trying to do something interesting with the trope, a little off the beaten path.

Roleswap ~Sure, I've not seen this excessively but I know I've read one or two over the years and enjoyed them.
